Rock Poetry Presentation

1.  Play your song for the class.  (The language and content must be appropriate for school)

2.  Have the students do a quick write about your song.  You may give them a specific question if you would like.  These writings will be done in the journal and counted in the journal grade.

3.  You will then present a speech that analyses the song.  You need to look at theme, meaning, symbolism and at least three other literary devices from your list.

4.  The speech will be between 3 and 5 minutes in length.  The time does not include playing your song or the quick write.  I expect you to follow speech format by having an introduction, body and conclusion.  The speech certainly and in many cases will need to include information about the writer of the song, the person/people who recorded the song and the time period the song was popular.  As with poetry these factors have a major impact on the interpretation of the text.

5.  The speech must also include a visual aid.  The visual may be in any medium you choose, but it must relate to your subject.

6.  You must turn in a typed copy of the lyrics you will use by Friday December 1st.  I need the copies for two reasons:  I will make copies for all of the students and I want to make sure that your song is appropriate.  If you do not turn in the lyrics by Friday you will receive a zero for this project.  If you are not here Friday the lyrics are due THE DAY you return.

We will begin Monday December 4th with the presentations.  We will randomly pick the order.  You will go the day you are assigned or not at all.  If you are not present on the day you are to give your presentation you will give it the day you return.

Any element not included in this assignment will result in a letter grade reduction.  For example if you do not speak for 3 minutes you will loose one letter grade.
